I am not what I seem
In 2013 the Colombian government and ACR (Agencia colombiana para la reintegración) asked 13 Colombian artiststo give a workshop in several regions of the country to people who used to be part of subversive groups, but now, they are in process of reintegration to society. I went to Valledupar where I gave a workshop in comic and storytelling. The result of this experience are these portraits I did with hair based on the people I met during the workshop. The purpose of this work is to show that everything is not as it seems, in this case, by playing with the viewer perception, making it believe the portraits are done by just a simple drawing with line, but if the viewer gets close, it will see the nature of the material. Likewise with the demobilized combatants, where society has a mistaken idea about them and it will no change until they get closer to each other
No soy lo que parezco
En el 2013, El gobierno de Colombia y el ACR (Agencia colombiana para la reintegración) contactó a trece artistas Colombianos para realizar un taller en diferentes lugares del país a personas que fueron parte de grupos subversivos pero que ahora están en proceso de reintegración. Fui a Valledupar donde dicté un taller en cómic y narrativa. El resultado de esta experiencia son estos retratos hechos con pelo basados en las personas que conocí durante el taller. El propósito de esta obra es el de mostrar que no todo lo que se ve es lo que parece, en este caso, al jugar con la percepción del espectador, haciéndole creer que los retratos están hechos de un simple dibujo en línea, pero al acercarse, el espectador se dará cuenta de la naturaleza del material. De igual manera sucede con los desmovilizados, donde la sociedad tiene una idea errónea sobre ellos y que no cambiará hasta que se acerquen los unos a los otros.
